Working with an agent

Working With a Licensed Medicare Agent in Austin, TX

Here's what working with a licensed Medicare agent at Austin Senior Insurance looks like. We work with people turning 65, people already on Medicare who want a second look, and families sorting out coverage for an aging parent. That help costs nothing.

A licensed agent picks up when you call during business hours, and we're still the agency you'll reach next January if something on a bill looks off.

  • Licensed Texas agents, reached by phone
  • Your doctors and prescriptions checked first
  • No cost for our help, no obligation to enroll

How it works

What a licensed agent does for you

The first question we ask anyone is who their doctors are. A plan can read fine on paper and still leave out the specialist you rely on, and nobody catches it unless they check before you enroll.

The work looks about the same every time: write out your providers and medications, then price the plans we offer against that exact list. Sometimes the honest answer is that your current plan already beats anything we can show you, and we say so.

Medicare rules are federal, but the plans themselves are local. What matters in Central Texas is which carriers hold St. David's, Ascension Seton and Baylor Scott & White contracts this year, since those change, and which plans dropped a clinic at the last renewal.

Process

A free plan review, step by step

  1. 1

You call or request a callback

Tell us whether you're turning 65, already on Medicare, or helping a family member. A licensed agent calls you back during business hours.

  2. 2

We list your doctors and drugs

Family doctor care, specialists, your preferred hospital, your pharmacy and every prescription with its dose.

  3. 3

We compare the plans we represent

Network status, drug costs, premiums, copays and the yearly out-of-pocket cap, totaled for a full year.

  4. 4

You decide, and we stay on call

If you enroll, we handle the application. Either way, you can call us with billing or claims questions and for a recheck each fall.

Local care

Why local knowledge matters around Austin

Plans sold around Austin don't all contract with the same hospitals. A good agent checks whether your plan works with St. David's, Ascension Seton or Baylor Scott & White before you sign. Veterans who use VA clinics should ask how VA care and Medicare fit together, since the VA does not bill Medicare. For free, unbiased counseling, Texas HICAP (Health Information, Counseling and Advocacy Program) is at 1-800-252-9240.

Questions

Questions about working with a Medicare agent in Austin

Does it cost more to enroll through a Medicare agent?
No. Agents are paid by the insurance carriers they represent. Your premium for a given plan is the same whether you enroll through an agent, through Medicare.gov, or directly with the carrier.
Can a Medicare agent show me every plan in Austin?
Not always. An agent can only offer plans from the carriers they're appointed with. Austin Senior Insurance does not offer every plan available in your area. For a full list, use Medicare.gov, call 1-800-MEDICARE, or contact Texas HICAP at 1-800-252-9240.
What is the difference between an agent and HICAP?
HICAP (Health Information, Counseling and Advocacy Program) is Texas's free, state-run counseling program. HICAP counselors give unbiased information but do not sell plans. A licensed agent can compare the plans they represent and handle your enrollment.
Do I have to enroll if I talk to an agent?
No. A review comes with no obligation. If the plan you already have is the best fit, we'll tell you to keep it.
How do I check that an agent is licensed in Texas?
The Texas Department of Insurance offers a public agent and agency lookup on its website. You can look up any agent or agency by name.
