Medicare in Bee Cave

What Bee Cave residents should know

Bee Cave has emergency care in town. St. David's Emergency Center Bee Cave on Galleria Circle is open 24 hours, with a CT scanner, a lab and a trauma room. It treats heart attacks, strokes, injuries and breathing trouble. It is part of St. David's South Austin Medical Center, and patients who need a hospital bed transfer there. For everyday visits, the Baylor Scott & White Clinic on State Highway 71 offers internal medicine, preventive care, women's health, X-rays and lab work. The closest full hospital is Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Lakeway, a short trip north.

That mix shapes your plan choice. A Medicare Advantage HMO usually keeps you inside one network, except for emergencies. If your doctor is at the Baylor Scott & White clinic but your nearest ER is St. David's, check that both are in the plan before you enroll. A Medicare Supplement works another way. Plan G or Plan N lets you see any doctor in the country who accepts Medicare, with no referrals. You pay a monthly premium for that freedom. Drug coverage differs too. Most Advantage plans include Part D. With a Supplement, you buy a separate Part D plan, so check that your drugs and pharmacy are on its list.

Getting to appointments takes some planning. CapMetro does not list Bee Cave among the cities it serves. The City of Bee Cave points residents to Lakeway Mobility, a non-emergency medical transport service open 24 hours. Call 512-770-1020. Drive a Senior offers free door-to-door rides for older adults in Travis County. Call its central line at 512-472-6339 to ask whether your address is covered.

Local help is close by. The Bee Cave Public Library sits in City Hall at 4000 Galleria Parkway. Staff can help by phone at 512-767-6620, and you can borrow e-books and audiobooks from home through Libby. The Aging and Disability Resource Center answers questions about long-term services at 855-937-2372. For free one-on-one Medicare counseling, HICAP counselors at the Area Agency on Aging of the Capital Area answer at 512-916-6178.
