Medicare in Kyle

What Kyle residents should know

Kyle has a full hospital close to home. Ascension Seton Hays on Kyle Parkway runs a 24/7 emergency room and is a Level II trauma center and a designated stroke center. It offers heart and vascular care, surgery and a maternity center, with cardiology, neurology and neurosurgery in its medical office building. St. David's has a heart and vascular office on Everett Street, and it broke ground in 2026 on a freestanding ER off Kyle Crossing. That ER will be part of St. David's South Austin Medical Center.

That mix shapes your plan choice. A Medicare Advantage HMO usually keeps you inside one network, except for emergencies. If your hospital is Ascension Seton and your heart doctor is with St. David's, check that both are in the plan before you enroll. A Medicare Supplement works another way. Plan G or Plan N lets you see any doctor in the country who accepts Medicare, with no referrals. You pay a monthly premium for that freedom. Drug coverage differs too. Most Advantage plans include Part D. With a Supplement, you buy a separate Part D plan, so check that your drugs and pharmacy are on its list.

Getting to appointments takes some planning. Kyle is not a CapMetro city. Instead, the city runs Uber Kyle. For trips that start and end in Kyle, you pay the first $5 and the city covers up to $10 more. You need a smartphone and the City of Kyle app. Wheelchair-accessible rides cost $3.14 through MT Connect at 210-227-1900, option 4. Drive a Senior also lists northern Hays County in its free ride area.

Local help is close by. The Kyle Area Senior Zone, a local nonprofit, holds activities at the Krug Activity Center, 101 S. Burleson St., inside Mary Kyle Hartson Park. Call 737-738-5279. The group will run the new Adell Hurst Senior and Community Center on Dacy Lane once it opens. The Kyle Public Library is at 550 Scott Street. For free one-on-one Medicare counseling, HICAP counselors at the Area Agency on Aging of the Capital Area answer at 512-916-6178.

Common questions

Medicare questions from Kyle

Is St. David's opening an emergency room in Kyle?
Yes. St. David's is building a 24-hour freestanding ER off Kyle Crossing at 5165 S. FM 1626. The company expects construction to wrap up in early 2027. If you want St. David's in your network, check that the plan covers St. David's South Austin Medical Center, since the ER will be part of it.
Can I keep doctors at both Ascension Seton and St. David's?
With a Medicare Supplement, yes, as long as each doctor accepts Medicare. With a Medicare Advantage plan, it depends on the network. Check each doctor and hospital by name before you enroll.
When can I change my Kyle Medicare plan?
Anyone with Medicare can switch during Annual Enrollment, October 15 to December 7. If you are already in a Medicare Advantage plan, you get one more change during Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment, January 1 to March 31.
