Medicare in Leander

What Leander residents should know

Leander has emergency care in town. St. David's Emergency Center Leander on St. David's Loop is open 24 hours. It treats chest pain, stroke symptoms, fractures and breathing trouble, with an on-site lab and imaging. It is a freestanding ER and a department of St. David's Round Rock Medical Center, so patients who need a hospital bed transfer there. The closest full hospital is Ascension Seton Cedar Park on Medical Parkway, which was Cedar Park Regional Medical Center until Ascension took over in July 2025. It has 126 beds and offers emergency, cardiac and intensive care, surgery, orthopedics and rehab.

That split shapes your plan choice. A Medicare Advantage HMO usually keeps you inside one network, except for emergencies. If your ER is St. David's and your surgeon is with Ascension, check that both are in the plan before you enroll. A Medicare Supplement works another way. Plan G or Plan N lets you see any doctor in the country who accepts Medicare, with no referrals. You pay a monthly premium for that freedom. Drug coverage differs too. Most Advantage plans include Part D. With a Supplement, you buy a separate Part D plan, so check that your drugs and pharmacy are on its list.

Leander is a CapMetro city, so you have real transit options. The MetroRail Red Line leaves Leander Station Park & Ride near U.S. 183 and Metro Drive six days a week, with no Sunday service. Riders 65 and older pay half fare with a CapMetro Reduced Fare ID. Pickup Leander is a shared-ride shuttle inside the city, weekdays 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Book at 512-369-6200. CapMetro Access offers paratransit near fixed routes. Call 512-389-7501 to apply.

Local help is close by. The city's Leander Senior Activity Center at 709 Municipal Drive has fitness classes, games, workshops and trips for adults 55 and older. A resident membership costs $25 a year. Call 512-528-2755. The Leander Public Library is at 1011 S. Bagdad Road. For free one-on-one Medicare counseling, HICAP counselors at the Area Agency on Aging of the Capital Area answer at 512-916-6178.

Common questions

Medicare questions from Leander

Is Cedar Park Regional Medical Center now Ascension Seton Cedar Park?
Yes. Ascension took over the hospital at 1401 Medical Parkway on July 1, 2025, and renamed it Ascension Seton Cedar Park. If your plan listed Cedar Park Regional before, check the plan's directory for the new name before you enroll.
Can I keep doctors at both St. David's and Ascension Seton?
With a Medicare Supplement, yes, as long as each doctor accepts Medicare. With a Medicare Advantage plan, it depends on the network. Check each doctor and hospital by name before you enroll.
When can I change my Leander Medicare plan?
Anyone with Medicare can switch during Annual Enrollment, October 15 to December 7. If you are already in a Medicare Advantage plan, you get one more change during Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment, January 1 to March 31.
